Good luck with your hip replacement! My husband has had two. Both times he used the walker while at the hospital and then never again. He is in his early 60's and in great physical shape, so he is definitely NOT the norm. You will know when you no longer need your walker. Be safe and don't push yourself past your limit. Here's to healthy hips!

Isn't the internet great? I found this:
"Once a patient no longer needs walking aids and can walk around the house without pain--in addition to being able to walk two blocks around the house without pain or resting--all of these are considered signs of short-term recovery. The average short-term recovery time for a total hip replacement is 4 to 6 weeks."
And then, Susan is right...recovery is different for everyone.

Wishing you a full recovery Idaho.

Idaholily,
As long as you are a fall risk.
As long as it takes to become weight bearing on that leg.
As long as it takes for you to cooperate with physical therapy and recover.
As soon as your doctor says it's ok to stop using the walker.

There is another person having hip surgery this week. As soon as she recooperates, we will ask her-she is an expert!

Keep walking!

That's a question for your doctor or physical therapy team. Healing proceeds at a different rate for everyone, depending on their overall health and other medical conditions.
