Mom is now very confused. Thinks the people at the nursing home are playing mind games on her. This just happened in the last few days. Only thing I can figure is it is maybe a UTI. They are checking. 90 years old. Hasn’t been eating or drinking. Losing weight. Now just staring off like she is no longer there. Just want her to be out of pain. They are supposed to begin automatic low dose of morphine today because she is unable to know when she needs it. Hospice has been wonderful. Just a real sad time.

If they are starting morphine every four hours, does that mean the end is near? This is so hard with this pandemic. I was able to go see her once on Monday and she has gone downhill since. Only can see her through he window. Plus, now with the holidays, a lot of people are off.

By now I am certain they will have at least done dipstick on the urine. You well may be looking at dementia and agitation at end of life, and as you have told us, an inability to explain needing pain medication. I am glad that Hospice is there for you. Allow them to be your guide in her needs for comfort care. So sorry you are all going through this.

I'm glad you have Hospice there to oversee your mom. They can better assess what exactly is going on with her. If she hasn't been eating or drinking, it might mean the end is coming, but they will know best. Praying for God's peace to be with you, as you wait for some answers, and just try and enjoy whatever time you have left with her.
